Gold&Green, a Finnish company, creates plant-protein products from oats

In 2019, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released a monumental report urging that meat consumption be reduced in half by 2050. Meat consumption remains strong, but in some parts of the world the demand for plant-based alternatives to meats has risen. Historically, this market has been dominated by soy-based substitutes for products like burgers and sausages. In recent years, a growing number of companies are trying to diversify the market through other protein sources. Gold&Green Foods is the company behind Pulled Oats, a plant-based product made of oats, fava beans, yellow peas, oil and salt. Together, the production of these ingredients produces significantly less greenhouse gas emissions than livestock farming. A patented process helps the mixture to achieve a texture similar to pulled pork. Since launching, the company has continued to grow throughout Europe, finding success in both retail and foodservice. In 2020, Gold&Green introduced Pulled Oats to the US foodservice industry, with plans to later expand in US retail.
