Understanding the Food Planet Challenge

There’s no denying that our global food system is taking a toll on the planet. To solve the  many problems it is part of we must understand its  mechanisms.

We successively publish a series of thematic reports to help you understand the interactions between the  global food system, the planet — and us. Commissioned by and written exclusively for the  Food Planet Prize, these special reports offer analytical, in-depth perspectives on the various Food Planet Challenges and their complex interplay.

Fortunately, there are also solutions to many of the food system challenges, some already in place, others ripe  for development. The Food Planet Prize aims to find and support these  initiatives, while also exploring the more daring ideas on how to get us out of the current dead-end trajectories. To do so, we must understand the big picture; but also the role of various initiatives and their potential impact.  The thematic reports are accompanied by short presentations of initiatives — the  Editors’ Pick — that offer solutions, all of which have been nominated for  the Prize and are worthy of exposure. Together they illustrate the breadth and depth of the creative energy currently devoted to improving food systems worldwide.
